Gurrida Lake

Lake Gurrida is a jewel set in the territory of the Etna Park, on that northern slope overlooking the Nebrodi, in the Randazzo area.
It is the only wetland area in the Etna area, born in 1536 following the damming of the Flascio stream caused by an eruption. The waters thus invaded a vast plateau at an altitude of 800 meters, where the vineyards were later planted. In the summer season, the lake retreats and the waters remain imprisoned within an artificial basin. In the winter and spring, during the melting of the snow, the Flascio fills the natural limits of the lake and the vineyards remain submerged even for 3-4 meters.
In the area of Lake Gurrida there is a Nature Trail, two kilometers long, equipped with numbered observation points and signposts. It is an easy itinerary that also welcomes hikers with disabilities.
