The flowered floats of the Carnival of Acireale are born from an ancient tradition of covering cars with flowers.
In the 1885 edition of the Carnival of Acireale was first banned The Corso Flowers. The major aristocratic families of the city took part in this event with their carriages decorated with flowers. In the 1930 Carnival edition, cars adorned with flowers and citrus fruits appear for the first time. Gradually this tradition became a real competition. After the war, with the country's economic recovery, a flowered subject appeared on cars, made with the aid of iron, wood, metal mesh, and later polystyrene. The floral decorative element was applied to the structure thus created.
It was thanks to the random movements that some parts of the flowered structures performed pushed by the wind that the idea of the piloted manual or mechanical movement was born.
Thus the flowered floats of the Carnival of Acireale, which still today in Acireale are called Macchine Infiorate, which every year parade alongside the papier-mâché floats, the pride of the most beautiful Carnival of Sicily.
