Mazara del Vallo and the Marrobbio

The Marrobbio is a sudden and significant variation in the level of the water column in the sea that occurs in Mazara del Vallo.
This phenomenon has been recorded several times in Mazara del Vallo and has assumed considerable proportions with movements of the sea water mass of 150 centimeters. The phenomenon of Marrobbio is completely unpredictable, the only data that can predict its occurrence are a level of low atmospheric pressure which, combined with a sudden change in the direction of the winds in the sea, generates this phenomenon. The morphological component of the Mazaro coasts, whose coastal coastline is made up of narrow and long bays, then favors the occurrence of the Marrobbio phenomenon.
The Arabs observed this phenomenon on the Mazaro river, which in Mazara del Vallo flows into the sea, at the time of their historic landing in Mazara del Vallo and for this reason they called Mazaro the river "possessed".
