Minestra dei Virgineddi is a special soup that has its roots in the cult of the Madonna della Catena.
According to tradition, devotees turn to the Madonna della Catena and invoke her help in times of difficulty. When the vow is fulfilled, as a gesture of thanksgiving, a special soup is prepared to share with friends, neighbors, and relatives.
The soup is made with seasonal vegetables, such as tenerume, cabbage, and zucchini, and legumes such as lentils and dried broad beans. Originally, this soup was offered only to children, I Virgineddi. For this reason, it is still known today as the Minestra dei Virgineddi.
Today, this ancient tradition has become a moment of community thanks to the Sagra dei Virgineddi
