Church of Santa Maria delle Grazie in Piazza Armerina

The Church of Santa Maria delle Grazie in Piazza Armerina, of considerable architectural and artistic value, stands on Piano Sant'Ippolito from which it is possible to enjoy an exceptional view of the city.
It was built in 1603 at the behest of the Capuchin Friars and its structure reflects the Capuchin canons of humility and sobriety.
The facade, in stone ashlars, stands out for its simple and rigorous lines.
The interior, with a single nave, is covered by a barrel vault.
Of notable artistic value are the works kept inside the church: a crucifix with reliquary; a painting in honor of Santa Veronica; the main altar in carved wood; the altarpiece of the Madonna degli Angeli or Madonna delle Grazie, placed on the high altar, the work of the famous Venetian artist Paolo Piazza, painter of Pope Paul V, whose most characterizing element is the seventeenth-century miniature depicting the city..
