Suburban Park Grotta del Drago - Torrente Cava in Scordia

The Grotta del Drago Suburban Park - Torrente Cava in Scordia is an area of naturalistic and archaeological interest.
The park develops in the hilly area of Scordia, on the northern slopes of the Iblei mountains, among numerous streams.
Along the course of these streams, in particular of the Loddiero-Ippolita and Cava streams, on the rocky ridges that delimit them, evidence of the civilizations that have succeeded one another in the area since the Neolithic are visible.
Along the canyons generated by the flow of streams are there are numerous excavations for residential and funerary use, such as the Grotta Pulen, which overlooks the Loddiero stream, and the Grotta del Drago, which overlooks the Cava stream.
The Grotta del Drago, whose name is connected to a legend, is formed by a system of large rooms arranged on two levels connected by a staircase carved into the rock. Numerous interventions have taken place over time as evidence of the housing continuity of these places. Of notable interest is the Eye of the Dragon, a cave located on the upper level of the rocky ridge and which allows you to observe the panaorama of the quarry in its entirety.
Inside the complex of the Grotta del Drago is an interesting prehistoric tomb with an artificial cave with a circular plan and a quay that runs along the walls.
Evidence of a more recent use of the area is a millstone inside a cave which bears witness to the ancient winemaking vocation of the city of Scordia.
Inside the park there is also the area of the pirrere, i.e. the tuff quarries now abandoned.
