Feast of San Bartolo in Geraci
In Geraci Siculo every year, on August 24th, the Patron Saint, San Bartolo is celebrated.
On the morning of the 23rd, the eve of the feast, the clergy with the Statue of San Giacomo, Confraternity, faithful and musical band, from the Mother Church go to the Church of San Bartolo on the outskirts of the town, where the statue is already decorated and this is taken to the mother church.
Day 24 August after the solemn Eucharistic celebration, the musical band entertains the people in Piazza del Popolo with marches happy. In the late afternoon the solemn procession begins. The Saints, first San Bartolo and then San Giacomo, are carried on the shoulders of the young faithful who wander through the streets of the town. The feast ends with the traditional firecrackers and musical show. At the end of the feast, the Saints are placed next to each other separated by the central nave in the mother church. They will remain there until September 24th Thanksgiving holiday. On this occasion, always in procession, it will be San Bartolo who will accompany St. James to his Church at the Castle, while the Saint with a knife in his hand, a sign of his martyrdom, returns to his Church on the outskirts of the town.
