Salemi

Area: Selinunte and Belice Valley

Salemi is an Arab-medieval village located in the heart of the Belice Valley, surrounded by immense countryside, hills and vineyards.
One of the characteristic features of Salemi is the presence of buildings of different styles, which reflect the successive dominations over time: its origins date back to the Elimi, who founded the nucleus of Halyciae, Alicia. Alicia was conquered first by the Romans, then by the Goths, the Byzantines and the Arabs, who changed its name to Saleiman, "seat of delights", then by the Normans and the Swabians.
Salemi is known as the City of Loaves for its ancient tradition of devotional loaves.
