Church of Sant’Antonio Abate in Ferla

The Church of Sant'Antonio Abate in Ferla is one of the fine examples of the late Baroque style of the town.
It was built in the center of the new town following the 1693 earthquake which destroyed the ancient structure, dating back to the 16th century. XVI, located in the lower part of the town.
The facade consists of three concave bodies of which the two lateral ones are crowned by bell cells. Even if the tower model, very common in the Hyblean centres, was not used in the scheme of the façade, it has elements common to other Baroque churches in the shape of the portal and the niches and in the decorative details.
The interior is in the shape of a Greek cross and each axis of the cross measures 33 meters. The vault of the octagonal dome has friezes, frescoes and stuccos of remarkable workmanship. The central fresco depicts the triumph of Sant'Antonio, the other panels and the lunette of San Matteo are the work of Crestadoro.
Inside the church there are sculptural works of considerable artistic value dating back to the eighteenth century.
