"Muccunetti" of Mazara del Vallo

Dessert

Muccunetti, a Sicilian term for "morsels", are typical sweets of the culinary tradition of Mazara del Vallo. These are pastries packaged in the guise of candies made with a lemon flavored royal paste that contains a heart of pumpkin.
The muccunetti of Mazara del Vallo were invented by the Benedictine nuns of the local Convent of San Michele, who, still today, as centuries ago, they sell them daily to the outside world through a hollow iron cylinder that rotates on a central pin.
