The Tombolo is the most precious Sicilian lace.
The term "tombolo" indicates both the lace and the instrument used to make it. It is a very delicate handmade lace, in a very thin cotton thread whose construction technique is extremely complex. It consists in weaving the thread using some sticks called "bobbins". In the more complex processes, even a hundred bobbins are used, for the simpler ones only a few pairs.
The result is a lace of considerable artistic value that can be used alone or fixed on fabric.
