Deadicated - CC2.0

Zeppole, also called crispelle di riso or sfincitelle, are fried dough balls with a crunchy outside and a soft core flavored with cinnamon or citrus peel. They can be stuffed before or after cooking with cheese or anchovies. While still hot, they are traditionally browned in granulated sugar.
Zeppole are a typical dessert of the carnival tradition and in many places in Sicily they are prepared on the occasion of the feast of San Martino or San Giuseppe. However, it is possible to taste these delicious desserts at any time of the year.
Don't confuse zeppole with rice crispelle from Catania, also often called zeppole.
