Church of Santa Maria della Mercede in Biancavilla
The Church of Santa Maria della Mercede in Biancavilla is a small religious building of particular artistic value.
It was built in the 17th century, in honor of the Madonna dell'Elemosina at the behest of the Mercedarian Fathers. The works were completed only in the 20th century
The façade is divided into two orders and is surmounted by an attic aedicule. It features elements in late Sicilian Baroque style such as the valuable sculpted portal in black lava stone.
The interior, with a single nave, houses numerous paintings by the painter Giuseppe Tamo from Brescia.
