Antinna a Mari, also known as Ntinna a Mari, is a traditional Sicilian game that takes place every year in Sciacca.
During the Sagra del Mare, held on the occasion of the festa di San Pietro, in the internal eastern pier, this folk competition takes place in which several participants take part in the < strong>the oldest water game in Sicily.
The game consists of a sort of maypole suspended almost horizontally from the pier towards the sea. The thick trunk is smeared with soap and grease, and a flag, the antinna, is placed at its end. Participants walking on this log must grab the flag without falling into the water. Numerous attempts and consequent dives into the water precede the conquest of the flag.
In the past only the sons of fishermen were allowed to compete, today the competition is open to all.
