Donkeys in Castelbuono
The Municipality of Castelbuono was the first in Italy to use donkeys for waste collection.
Since 2007, the municipal administration has adopted a special cleaning team made up of highly prized Ragusan donkeys. The originality of the idea and the presence of donkeys have helped to involve and bring citizens closer to ecological and environmental issues: the bins have thus been eliminated from the streets of Castelbuono and the noise and environmental pollution associated with the passage of mechanical means has been reduced collection.
