Acireale, with its splendid Baroque monuments, was the set for the movie "The Seduction".
The film tells of the journalist Giuseppe Laganà, who after several years spent in France, returns to his native Acireale. Here he meets Caterina, his ex-girlfriend who is now widow and mother of the teenager Graziella, reconnecting the relationship with the ancient flame and taking to frequent his house. This allows a closeness with Graziella who, fascinated by the forty-year-old, begins an assiduous work of seduction and soon becomes her lover. The discovery of the affair irritates the mother who, however, will resign herself to sharing the man with her daughter. But Giuseppe betrays Caterina and Graziella with Rosina, a friend of Graziella's, and so Caterina takes her revenge by killing her partner with a pistol.
Several scenes of the film were shot in Acireale: the meetings between Giuseppe and his friend Alfredo, during which Giuseppe will first ask for information about Caterina and then inform his friend about the progress made to get closer to the woman, were both shot in the Villa Belvedere in Acireale. The square, the place where he has coffee with other friends, is Piazza del Duomo in Acireale. The meeting place between Graziella and a friend of hers is Piazza Garibaldi in Acireale. Some scenes of the film were shot on the seafront of Acitrezza and Acicastello.
