The origin of the name - Pietraperzia - is closely related to the ancient history of this village.
The term Pietraperzia derives from the French pierre percée, i.e. pierced stone, which in Sicilian dialect becomes petri pirciati, from whose Pietraperza. This hypothesis is supported by the fact that in this territory there are several pierced stones: these are the numerous pre- and proto-historic necropolises created by drilling into the rock.
