Feast of Our Lady of Victories in Piazza Armerina

In Piazza Armerina, on August 15, the solemnity of the Assumption of the Most Holy Mary into Heaven, the celebrations in honor of the Patron Saint Madonna delle Vittorie take place. In the afternoon of the feast day, the solemn procession takes place through the city streets of the sacred Icon of the Madonna. It is a Byzantine icon, a panel covered with a canvas support on which the Madonna with Child in her arms is painted, which according to tradition is identified with the banner that Count Roger received from Pope Alexander II.
The festival is preceded by the famous Palio dei Normanni which takes place on August 14th.
