Feast of Our Lady of the Visitation in Enna

The Patronal Feast of the Madonna della Visitazione in Enna takes place every year in July and represents one of the most attended and heartfelt religious events by the entire population.
The celebrations begin as early as June when traditionally, on June 29, the simulacrum of the Virgin is moved from its chapel, the marble chapel, to the high altar, where it remains exposed for the veneration of the faithful throughout the festive period.
On the festive day, July 2, the solemn procession of the simulacrum of Maria SS takes place. of the Visitation, a valuable fifteenth-century statue to which a legend is also linked. The simulacrum, adorned with jewels and flowers, is placed on an artistic vara, the golden ship, and carried through the streets of the historic center of Enna up to the Church of Montesalvo.
The final part of the procession is very characteristic where the statue of the Virgin on one side, which moves very quickly towards the church, is welcomed by the statues of Saints Zacharias and Elizabeth, who come out of the church and run towards the Virgin.
As part of the festivities in honor of Maria SS.ma della Visitazione, numerous collateral events, folkloristic shows, music and entertainment are organised.
