Feast of the Most Holy Mary of Custonaci in Erice
In Erice, from the last Sunday of August until the following Wednesday, celebrations are held in honor of the Patron Saint Maria Santissima of Custonaci.
The celebrations are inaugurated on Sunday, with a solemn mass held in the Cathedral of Erice.
The traditional re-enactment of the landing takes place on Monday holidays, during which several ships dock at the coast, bringing back the painting depicting the Madonna of Custonaci, exactly as it happened many centuries ago. According to tradition, in fact, in the sixteenth century, a ship managed to land near Cala Burguto, after having managed to miraculously save itself from a storm. The ship was carrying a painting depicting the Blessed Virgin Mary, which had been the object of the sailors' prayers during the terrible experience they had to face.
The parade of allegorical floats takes place on Tuesday.
Finally, the evocative float parade takes place on Wednesday procession along the streets of the city.
