Feast of St. Mary the Star in Militello in Val di Catania

The feast of Santa Maria della Stella in Militello in Val di Catania, the main patron saint of the city, is celebrated on September 8, the day of the Nativity of the Virgin.
Traditionally, the feast is preceded by a Novena during which the traditional procession called la Cantata takes place. During the days of the Triduum, the most important and characteristic events of the feast take place: the procession with the Relic from the church of S. Maria la Vetere; the display of the statue of the Madonna della Stella; the triumphal exit; the procession of the statue through the streets of the city.
During the feast days, other liturgical, devotional, cultural and folkloristic events are also organized.
