Vecchia Strina in Cefalù

The night of December 31, in Cefalù, is the children's party. On the evening of December 31st the welcome of the "old strina" is set up, an old lady who, according to an ancient tradition, brings gifts and sweets to good children. It descends from the fortress of Cefalù, where its home is located. A large crowd parades, by the light of torches, through the streets of the city, while the waiting old lady distributes sweets and candies.
This old lady is the protagonist of the legend of the Old Strina spread throughout the Sicilian hinterland , especially in the heart of the Madonie.
