San Silvestro a mare in Catania
Every year in Catania on New Year's Day, December 31, the San Silvestro a Mare international swimming competition is organised. The event includes a traditional swim in the Gulf of Ognina. The competition sees participants of all ages, from various nations, professionals and non-professionals.
The event was born in 1960 at the behest of Lallo Pennisi, institution of water polo in Catania, and has now become a fixed appointment that attracts more and more sports and swimming enthusiasts.
