Church of Gesù Lavoratore in Giarre is a modern building of worship which houses works of particular artistic value.
It was built in 1979, designed by the architect Marcello Leone, in an agricultural area which, following the strong expansion building of the city, was incorporated into the town center and transformed into the current Jungo district.
Outside the building of worship, a globe-shaped cave was erected which recalls the Lourdes cave and which has a an opening that follows the perimeter lines of Sicily; water flows from this globe and is poured into a pentagonal basin which symbolizes the five continents.
Among the works kept inside the church, of particular artistic value are: an eighteenth-century crucifix, carved on a single trunk, the work of Fra' Umile school; a nineteenth-century statue of the Immaculate Conception made in papier-mâché by the school of Luigi Guacci from Lecce; a baptismal font made from a single block of lava stone; the panels of the Via Crucis in cast bronze, the work of Tino Barresi.
