Sanctuary of San Gerardo in Piedimonte Etneo
The Sanctuary of San Gerardo in Piedimonte Etneo is a small place of worship erected in honor of San Gerardo Maiella.
It was built in 1928 following a miraculous event. Given the growing number of devotees, in 1931 the small place of worship was demolished to make room for a larger construction. On 16 June 2000 the church was elevated to a sanctuary.
The simple rectangular façade has no significant architectural elements. There is a single portal surmounted by a window with a lunette where the image of the Saint is depicted.
Inside the church, inside a reliquary, the original image of San Gerardo to which he is linked is kept the miraculous event.
