Piedimonte Etneo: Viewpoint of Etna

Things to do, attractions, interesting facts

Piedimonte Etneo

Area: Catania and Etna

Piedimonte Etneo rises at the foot of Mount Etna, on the eastern side of the volcano.
It was founded in the 17th century under the power of the Gravina Cruyllas family, and was originally called Belvedere by virtue of the splendid views overlooking Etna. The eighteenth century was a century of great urban growth for the village: numerous palaces, streets and buildings were built which still characterize it today. In particular, Ferdinando Francesco Gravina Cruyllas was the architect of the great eighteenth-century expansion of the town and of the urban imprint that still distinguishes it characterized by the presence of streets of unusual width for the time.
Piedimonte Etneo is part of the Etna Park and preserves a great naturalistic heritage.
