The strange shape of the stack of Petra Lunga on the island of Lipari has given rise to a popular legend.
The tapered shape of the Lipari stack vaguely resembles a human figure. Some inhabitants seem to have called him "l'omu 'ntrunato", or "the electrocuted man" because, according to legend, he is what remains of a man used to work even on Good Friday, struck by God for his impious conduct .
