The Alcantara Gorges were the setting for some scenes of the film "The Tale of Tales".
The Gole dell'Alcantara is in the film the place where the King of Selvascura is killed by a dragon. In the scenes of the film we recognize the spectacular basaltic walls of the Gole di Larderia, the most imposing and famous of the gorges of the Alcantara river park.
Matteo Garrone's film is freely based on "Lo cunto de li cunti" by Gianbattista Basile, Neapolitan author of the seventeenth century. The film's scenes were filmed in various Italian regions, some scenes were also filmed in Sicily at the Donnafugata castle in Ragusa.
