Marrobio in Lampedusa

marrobbio-a-lampedusa

Marrobbio is a natural phenomenon that occurs in Lampedusa and in a few other places in Sicily.
This strange phenomenon occurs in Lampedusa from April to May and then from September to October. When Marrobbio arrives the sky becomes gray, the sea water recedes and the boats are left aground. After a few minutes, the sea suddenly rises by at least one meter and the waves can flood the streets. The phenomenon of Marrobbio is completely unpredictable, the only data that can predict its occurrence are a level of low atmospheric pressure which, combined with a sudden change in the direction of the winds in the sea, generates this phenomenon.
