Luca Siragusa - CC2.0
Lampedusa is the largest island in the Pelagie archipelago. Immersed in the Mediterranean, halfway between Sicily and Tunisia, it represents the southernmost point of Italy.
Lampedusa boasts some of the most beautiful beaches in the world: stretches of fine sand bathed by a crystalline sea.
Uncontaminated nature , wild beaches, hidden coves reachable only by boat, splendid seabed and excellent food make it a very popular tourist destination.
The island is a nature reserve and includes the beach, the Isola dei Conigli and the Mediterranean scrub. It is one of the few places in the Mediterranean where Caretta caretta sea turtles lay their eggs.
