Origin of the name - Isnello -

Carlo Columba - CC2.5

There are several hypotheses formulated regarding the origin of the name Isnello, but they all agree to connect it to the watercourse that crosses the entire territory.
A first hypothesis holds that the term Isnello may derive from the Syriac term hassin which means cold river. A second hypothesis derives it from the Punic term hassinor which indicates a stream that flows in a tube-shaped bed. A third hypothesis instead correlates it to the Greek term asines which indicates the harmlessness of the stream.
