The history of the village of Linguaglossa is intimately linked to Etna, as is its name.
The etymology of the term Linguaglossa derives from the Latin and Greek languages. Both the terms lingua, which comes from Latin, and glossa, which comes from Greek, have the meaning of lingua. The reference to the tongues of fire of the volcanic eruptions that have crossed its territory is therefore very strong.
