The village of Roccapalumba stands at the foot of the majestic Rocca, which has become the symbol of the village.
The term Roccapalumba in fact means Rocca delle doves, where rocca refers to the majestic rock formation under which the town stands while the term doveis believed to be linked to the fact that in the natural cave of the fortress there was a massive presence of doves. This hypothesis has led some scholars to believe that at the foot of the rock, where the ancient church of the Madonna della Luce once stood, in ancient times there stood a cult building dedicated to Demeter to whom these birds were consecrated.
Second another hypothesis the term colomba, from the Latin palumbus, colombo, is linked to the geographically elevated location of the village.
