Origin of the Sanctuary of Furi
The origin of the Furi Sanctuary is linked to a miraculous event that took place in 1718.
According to tradition, a sacred image of the Madonna was found in the place where the Sanctuary stands today. It is said that the Madonna appeared from the top of a cliff to a shepherd, Antonio Briguglio. Our Lady spoke to the pastor and expressed her regret because the devotion of her children had failed. He asked him to find His painting image, i.e. one of His painting which was lost in those countryside. So it was that all the inhabitants of Cinisi went in search of this image and found it on the wall of a farmhouse, the place where the Sanctuary of the Madonna del Furi was built.
