Leonforte's coat of arms is a crowned lion with severed paws holding a flag. Behind this particular representation there is a legend.
It is said that the progenitor of the Branciforti family, founder of the city of Leonforte, Obizzo, was at war with Charlemagne against the Lombards. According to the legend, during the battle the enemies cut off his hands, but he continued to hold high the flag of his formation. Charlemagne, proud and proud of his behavior, rewarded him by giving him the city of Piacenza and from that moment the family would be called Branciforti.
The name "Leonforte" itself comes from the coat of arms of the Branciforti family.
