A legend explains why Passito di Pantelleria, also known as Zibibbo, is called the nectar of the gods .
It is said that the goddess Tanit, who passed herself off as a cup of the gods, instead of ambrosia, the typical drink of Olympus, poured the must from the vineyards of Pantelleria into the cup of Apollo. This replacement allowed her to conquer Apollo whom she had fallen in love with.
