The Sicilian Scaccio is an ancient tradition that involves munching on seeds leaving a trail of peels behind.
Eating seeds after a meal is an Arab custom, still very common throughout the Middle East, which has spread throughout Sicily. The popular tradition of scaccio has come down to the present day: there are no village festivals in Sicily where the classic "Sicilian scaccio stall" is not present, served in the classic "coppu", a practical paper cone. In these stalls, in addition to the tradition calia e semenza, you can also find American peanuts, pistachios, almonds, walnuts, hazelnuts, candies, dried chestnuts, and other varieties of dried fruit, all to munch on.
