Maria SS del Ponte Church in Caltagirone
The new church of the Madonna del Ponte in Caltagirone is located next to the oldest church of the Madonna del Ponte, today a Marian Diocesan Sanctuary.
The gabled façade has a portico that is divided into five arches, the central dome rises above the others on split columns, to emphasize the portico of access to the church.
Its interior, large and bright, has three naves, the higher central one with large mullioned windows against which two lower side naves lean against. The presbytery, raised by three steps with respect to the hall, has a semicircular apse inserted in a mosaic triumphal arch with the monogram of Christ and Angels in movement.
Inside is the painting which, according to tradition, was painted by a painter who witnessed the apparition of the Virgin Mary in 1572 in the fountain now incorporated in the nearby sanctuary.
