Jacona della Motta Villa in Caltagirone
Villa Jacona della Motta in Caltagirone is part of a complex of villas and parks built between the seventeenth and twentieth centuries in the vicinity of the Convent of Santa Maria di Gesù, testimony to the well-being and cultural interests of the nobility of the time.
It is believed that it was originally belonging to the Crescimanno family, it later passed into the ownership of the Di Martino family who, in the person of Nicolò Di Martino, in 1886 had a renovation project of the building carried out with the unique coating of the project, to be "carried out in baked clay" by the famous modeler and designer prof. Gioacchino Alì.
The villa shows an elegant configuration on two floors hinged on the vast octagonal rooms on the first and second floors and an elegant pincer staircase. The villa is surrounded by a geometric garden in front of it and a large park, rich in typical Sicilian vegetation and terracotta manufactories. The park is equipped with an ancient rainwater collection system, made up of horizontal and vertical wells, which once was able to guarantee its water needs.
