The Carnival party in Palazzolo Acreide features parades of allegorical floats with the participation of the characteristic Syracusan masks such as the Cuturri, evenings dedicated to music in the square and joy. On the occasion of the carnival, the traditional Sagra dei Cavati with pork sauce is organized, a type of pasta seasoned with pork sauce, tastings of the Palazzolo sausage and other local specialties.
The Carnival of Palazzolo Acreide has very origins ancient, dates back to an ancient and singular procession that took place on the occasion of the feast of the Madonna Odigitria during which a group of masked women wrapped in a large cloak, called the ntuppatedde, abruptly broke into the procession creating havoc with pressing dances.
