Epiphany in Mezzojuso
In Mezzojuso, on the day of Epinania, the Byzantine Theophany of the Baptism of Christ and Vulata ra palumma, or the flying of the dove, take place, which recalls the baptism of Jesus in the Jordan and the descent of the Holy Spirit.
It is a religious function in the Byzantine rite which bears witness to the origins of this village founded in the 15th century by an Albanian colony.
At the conclusion of the religious function follows the distribution of oranges and holy water.
