Feast of San Giuseppe in Sommatino
The Feast of San Giuseppe in Sommatino takes place on March 19th, the day of the liturgical anniversary, and in the month of August. The festival is a moment rich in faith, tradition and folklore.
The salient moments of the celebrations are: the representation of the Tuppi Tuppi, the representation of the Flight into Egypt of the Holy Family which takes place between the streets of the historic center. The name of the performance, in Italian toc toc, evokes the act of knocking on the door of various homes and inns; the Tavula sbambata, i.e. a rich table set with breads, sweets and typical products.
During the summer festival, the Palio di San Giuseppe also takes place, during which the banner depicting Saint Joseph is contested by some faithful from Summa, who offer money. A race takes place with horses whose path is obstructed by various members of the committee who work to make the horses retreat and delay the winning of the palio.
