Feast of San Pietro in Panarea
On the island of Panarea, the celebrations in honor of St. Peter, the patron saint of the island, are held on 28 and 29 June.
Day 28 June, the eve of the festival, various events are organized that prepare for the atmosphere of celebrations such as folkloristic groups, dances, songs and tasting of typical products.
Day 29 the solemn procession of the simulacrum of the Saint takes place on the shoulders of the faithful along the main streets of the island. The most striking feature of the procession is the fact that it takes place partly on the island and partly in the sea: the simulacrum is placed on a boat to receive the protection of the patron saint even from the sea.
