The Tonnara Festival in Gioiosa Marea is an event in which tradition, history and taste meet.
The festival is organized every year by the Ass. Experience San Giorgio in the month of June/July to remember an event that took place on 27 June 1407, when the Prince of San Piero Patti obtained the stretch of sea in front of the village for the construction of the tuna fishery of Gioiosa Marea. Tonnara which was the basis of the economy and history of this village.
The event includes guided tours and conferences to discover the history and places of the tuna fishery, and a rich program of events with tastings of tuna and fresh fish of the Mediterranean, stands with typical local products and handicrafts, musical performances and entertainment.
