Church of San Francesco D'Assisi in Ciminna
The Church of San Francesco D'Assisi in Ciminna is an important place of worship in the village.
The exact date of construction of the church is not known but it is certain that the Franciscan friars minor, present in Ciminna since 15th century, at the end of the same century they built a new convent and the church dedicated to San Francesco d'Assisi.
The façade adopts the giant order with high Tuscan pilasters and triglyph frieze. Along the side elevation, at the center of the side sections that identify the internal spaces of the large chapels, there are the surviving displays of mannerist style windows.
The interior features valuable neoclassical style decorations dating back to the end of the eighteenth century.< br>The church houses various works belonging to the religious of the Order of Friars Minor Conventual. Of particular value are: the canvas of the Immaculate Conception by Vito D'Anna from 1766; a Crucifix made in mixture by Antonello Gagini in 1521; the statue depicting the Immaculate Conception created in 1781 by Antonino Barcellona.
The former convent is home to the Francesco Brancato Municipal Library.
