Church of the Carmine in Francofonte

The Carmine church in Francofonte, flanked by the convent of the same name, is the second religious building in the city.
The ancient building was located on the eastern outskirts of the city, following the earthquake it was completely destroyed and rebuilt in a new location , in the place where the church of San Sebastiano, dating back to the 15th century, once stood.
The imposing façade is enclosed on the sides by Tuscan pilasters. Above the portal there is a niche in which a statue of the Madonna del Carmine is placed. In the top part, surrounded by a balustrade, is the cuspidate belfry.
The planimetric layout of the church follows the fifteenth-century one of the primitive church of San Sebastiano. The interior has a single nave with three altars on the right and two on the left, all dating back to the 18th century.
