Museum of the Sea in Marettimo

Museum of the Sea of Maritime Activities and Traditions and of Emigration of Marettimo , is a precious and small museum located in the center of the town near the old port.
The museum was created by the will of the islanders with the aim of protecting the identity of the island. Inside the museum are exhibited the ancient tools once used for fishing, newspaper articles and photographs documenting the art of fishing of the people of Marettimo and how, due to the gradual impoverishment of the waters, its inhabitants had to migrate for the world. The first migrations began between the late 1800s and early 1900s. Fishermen moved along with schools of fish around the world: North Africa, Portugal, America, even Alaska in search of salmon.
