The legend of the ghosts of the Forza D'Agrò Castle is linked to a tragic event told in a manuscript found in Savoca.
During the anti-Spanish uprisings the castle was occupied by the French under General Vivonne, who allowed the men of the knight Giacomo De Hox, as a sign of friendship, to settle in the castle as a sign of friendship. In the castle the brother of Giacomo De Hox, Antonio, had been held prisoner, probably following the betrayal of the Fortresses, who was blinded by the ambition of becoming the lord of Forza D'Agrò. Thus, on July 24, 1676, Antonio, before leaving the fortress to his brother Giacomo, which he did not like at all, invited his three brothers and their families for a farewell and welcome party to the new lord. After a succulent dinner, he had them chained and killed. The bodies were thrown from the ramparts of the castle and nothing more was heard of them. A staging was also devised to make it appear that his brothers and their respective families had left the castle the following morning.
According to legend, it is precisely the ghosts of those victims during the moonlit nights wandering in the castle and wailing dragging their heavy chains.
