The Fattuzzi of Trapani are spiteful sprites punished by God and expelled from Paradise because they boasted of being equal to him.
Stoners are sprites, sometimes good, sometimes bad, they are very cunning and enjoy making fun of people. They look bizarre, they are short and carry treasure behind their backs. There are those who say they saw them dressed as Turks, others yellow in the face wearing a long white robe. They frequent the houses of sailors, peasants and convents.
Among the stories that are told in Trapani about the fattuzzi is very well known that of a girl from an orphanage who found a gold pin with a diamond that disappeared when she showed it to her friend. The next night the girl dreamed of the fatuzzi who told her that in the kitchen she would find a pot full of gold coins. The next morning the girl found the pot, on the lid there was the gold pin that magically disappeared the night before. The girl called her friends and they all found that the pot was really full of gold coins. But it was not possible to take the pot, the mischievous stoners held it back: so the pot began to sink and the building to shake. A priest saw what had happened from the window and warned the mother superior who ran into the kitchen. At that moment everything returned to normal.
