Feast of Our Lady of the Snow in Francofonte

The feast of Santa Maria della Neve, patron saint of Francofonte, takes place every year on August 5th. On the occasion of the celebrations there are various moments of prayer but also various events that allow you to breathe a festive atmosphere.
The program linked to the festivities of the Patroness begins several days before the liturgical anniversary with a busy religious program of preparation for the feast and ends on August 12, the day of the octave, with the solemn procession.
The culminating moment of the festivities is August 5, the day in which the mayor's ritual handing over of the keys to the patron saint of the city takes place. Symbolic gesture through which the protection and patronage of the Madonna is invoked. This is followed by the traditional Giro dei Santi, a procession that winds through the old part of the town. In the afternoon the procession continues in the district of San Francesco. It ends with the return of the icon of the Madonna to the Mother Church.
